Learn how to use the longevity settings to include a specified date of death for one of the clients in a joint plan. The plan will automatically adjust all cash flows and assets on the selected date, including shifting taxation to single from married filing jointly. This is a powerful tool for special situations where mortality expectations are low and for demonstrating the "widow's penalty" in the Tax Lab.

hello income lab I want to review some

0:03

features for advanced longevity planning

0:06

and stress testing plans for the early

0:08

death of a

0:09

spouse here we have Tom and

0:11

Mary they have several cash flows that

0:14

depend on Tom being alive so there's a

0:18

uh a single life

0:19

pension

0:21

for $1,000 a month there's a joint with

0:25

50% survivorship annuity for $1,200 a

0:28

month and Tom has $3,000 in Social

0:31

Security Mary

0:35

2,000 so if

0:37

I copy this

0:40

plan and look at Tom passing

0:46

away in

0:55

2033 now spending capacity is quite a

0:58

bit lower

1:01

because in 2033 the the single life

1:04

pension goes away the joint annuity gets

1:06

cut in half and Mary's social security

1:09

goes from 2,000 to 3,000 for her

1:12

survivorship benefit but Tom's goes

1:16

away we can see these same effects in

1:19

life

1:23

Hub where for

1:25

example Tom's rmds are starting in 2031

1:30

before he passes away and so we get

1:32

withdrawals from the taxable account and

1:34

from Tom's Ira but then in 2034 those

1:38

rmds go

1:40

away and all of Tom's Ira moves into a

1:43

spousal rollover Ira for

1:46

Mary and then rmds start for Mary in

1:51

2036 I hope you enjoy using this feature

1:53

and it adds a lot of value to your

1:55

planning thanks
