Planners typically use the Other / Variable Expenses tab for scenario testing or A/B testing. Scenario testing and exploration involves creating multiple plans that differ only along one (or a very few) dimensions. For example, a household may wonder what the effect would be of buying a vacation home or of funding a grandchild's wedding.
To begin the scenario testing process, first create a base plan that incorporates all the necessary information and cash flows that form the core of a household's plan. Then, copy this plan and add an Other / Variable Expense. You can view a comparison of the two plans in the Plan Scenarios section.
Typically, you should not use Other / Variable Expenses to model normal budget items. You can plan for the normal costs of living on the Baseline Expenses tab.
